FSSAI is a regulatory body that was established by the government of India in 2011 to handle food-related issues in various sectors and ministries. Its main objective was to ensure proper standards are taken care of while manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale of food. Healthy standards are maintained for human consumptions.
Types of FSSAI License: –
- FSSAI Basic License: – The annual turnover of the business is less than 12 lakhs then the FBO will get registered with Registration Form A.
- FSSAI State License: – The annual turnover of the business is more than 12 lakhs but less than 20 Crores then FBO will get registered for State License Form B.
- FSSAI Central License: – The annual turnover of the business is more than 20 crores then the FBO will apply for Central License Form B.
FSSAI Registration is basically a 14 digit registration number that is used by the food-related business & printed on the food products with license number.
Procedure to apply for FSSAI Basic License
FSSAI Basic License For turnover Up to 12 lakhs annually
Documents Required for FSSAI Basic Registration: –
1. Photo Identity of Authorized person
2. Document for identity Proof (Aadhar Card, Driving License,
3. List of products planned
4. Partnership Deed/certificate of incorporation/ AOA/MOA
5. Proof of premises like Rental agreements or property registry etc.
6. NOC from local Authority
Step by Step Procedure to apply for FSSAI Registration
Go to FSSAI Website and on the right side of the page click on Sign up
Then a Sign-up Window will get open in which some basic details are required to be filled for Creating login id
After getting Login details on the right side click on Login-Businesses Tab
· Enter the credentials on User Sign-in and click on Sign-In
After Sign in on the left side click on License/Registration and then click on Apply for New License/Registration
Select the state where premises is located
Select the type of business
Then after clicking on proceed Form A will appear in which some basic details has to be mentioned
· Address of premises where food business is located
· Contact Details
After filing up Form A and submission of fees Rs 100/- a 14 Digit unique application number is generated
Within the period of 7 days Registering Authority (RA) will issue the registration certificate or will reject the application which depends upon the verification and observation.
After receiving the Registration Certificate, the FBO can start a business
RA can also send notice of inspection within the 7 days of submission of a form
Inspection can be done within 30 days of notice post the inspection the FBO can start a business.
Fees for the basic FSSAI Registration is Rs. 100/- for 1 year which can be renewed after 1 year.
FSSAI State License Registration:
For the Turnover of the business more than 12 lakhs but less the 20 crores.
Form for FSSAI State Registration: –
· Form B for State FSSAI Registration: -Form B is required for the State Food License Registration. It’s a mandatory form that is required to be filled to procure FSSAI State Registration
Documents Required for State FSSAI Registration: –
1. Duly filled Form – B must be correctly and appropriately completed and signed by the directors/ partners/ proprietor/ Executive member of society
2. List of Partners/Proprietor/Executive Members of Society with complete address and contact details.
3. Blueprint plan/layout plan of the processing unit installed capacity and horsepower used. (Mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only)
4. Constitution of company MOA and AOA / Partnership Deed
5. Analysis report as per the nature and business activity of the company
6. Food and safety management system and certificate
7. Declaration regarding the food safety management system (FSMS) on the letterhead of the firm or company
8. Proof of Income determining the annual turnover of food business operator
9. The nomination of the person appointed by the company in Form No.IX and the copy of Board Resolution
10. Self-Declaration by Director
11. NOC from the local authority
12. Affidavit on Non-Judicial Stamp paper
13. List of food category desired to be manufactured
14. Production unit Photograph
15. Any other documents which may be a demand by authority on the basis of the requirement of the business.
Step by Step procedure:-
Ø Go to FSSAI Website and on the right side of the page click on Sign up
Then a Sign-up Window will get open in which some basic details are required to be filled for Creating login id
Enter the applicant name, Email, Mobile number, login id and set the password
Ø After getting Login details on the right side click on Login-Businesses Tab
· Enter the credentials on User Sign-in and click on Sign-In
Ø
After Sign in on the left side click on License/Registration and then click on Apply for New License/Registration
· Select the state where premises are located
· Select the type of industry like manufacturer, trade/retail, food services, etc.
Ø On the next step after selecting the type of industry like Manufacturer, trade/retail, food services, etc.
Then select the business involved in it like we have selected Food services and then restaurant Business in it with turnover up to 20crore for state FSSAI Registration.
Ø Then after selecting click on proceed the next window will come with eligibility of license, if the eligibility is correct then click on tab “Click here to apply for the state license for all business”

Then enter the premises details: –
· Name of company/organization
· Address
· State, District, Sub-district, Pin code
· GST, PAN, CIN (If Any)

After filling up the Premises Details Click on “Save & Next” Then select the
· Food Product Category which are listed in a Dropdown
· Multiple food products can be selected by clicking Save and add.
Ø The Next step while Registering for a State license is to provide communication details Such as:
· Registered Address
· Correspondence Address (Can be same as Registered address)
· Contact Information
· Person in-charge of operations
· The person responsible for complying with conditions of the license (Is the authorized person)
· On last period for which license required which will specify the fees i.e., Rs 2000 for every year
Ø After Filling up this form click on Save & Next tab and upload the required documents and complete the payment process.
Ø Within the period of 60 days Registering Authority (RA) will issue the registration certificate or will reject the application which depends upon the verification and observation.
ØAfter receiving the Registration Certificate, the FBO can start a business.
Ø Inspection can be done within 30 days of notice post the inspection the FBO can start a business.
Ø Fees for the State FSSAI Registration is Rs. 2000/- for 1 year which can be renewed after 1 year.
